There is a lot of ‘stuff’ out there right now on what the aftermaths of the Corona / Covid19 crisis might or might not look like. But with every opinion it becomes increasingly clear: this current situation is unique. Different from past pandemics (or epidemics) less so in its size, than in its backdrop: that of a largely fully globalised world.
Few economists have truly the track record to justify themselves talking about systemic issues, impacts and outlooks – other than in blatantly generic truths.
One of the best contents I have seen in this context is the work by renowned journalist Andrew Revkin. Hereafter the 2 most insightful conversations he had around mid-term of the lock-down (end of March 2020 / early April 2020).
In his series ‘Sustain What‘ – intermittently focused on the topic of the systemic aspects of Corona/Covid19 – evkin has sought out a range of experts. Some of them in the front line, some of them in research for a long-time – to understand the myriads of facettes of what ‘impact’ does and could mean going forward.
In this first video, he converses with Herman Daly, father of ‘Ecological Economics’ and author of ‘Beyond Growth: The Economics of Sustainable Development’; and Kate Raworth, originator of the Doughnut Economics.
In this second video, he converses with Herman Daly, father of ‘Ecological Economics’ and several upcoming scholars in the discipline of Ecological Economics.
